Checker Attacks Pinkie.
“Pinkie?” asked Twilight, sounding a little concerned. “Is everything…ok?”
Pinkie looked over her shoulder as she was preparing to make the first batch of apple pies. She looked a little nervous. “Sure, Twilight, why not?”
“Pinkie, Rainbow didn’t tell us everything, but she did tell us that if your fur gets darker and your mane goes straight, something is wrong,” Twilight replied, seriously. She put a hoof on Pinkie’s shoulder. “Now what’s wrong?”
Pinkie gave a sigh. “…I just had a really, really, REALLY nasty nightmare last night…”
“Nightmare?” asked Twilight, blinking. Memories of her own entered her mind. “What…what kind of nightmare?”
“…The Cakes lost Sugar Cube Corner…another store ran them out…and I had to go back to the rock farm, away from all of you,” said Pinkie Pie, looking genuinely hurt by the nightmare. “I love my family…but I’d really miss everyone here if that happened…giggling at the ghosties didn‘t make me feel any better…”
Twilight gasped as she noticed the similarity. She then put her hoof on Pinkie’s shoulder. “Pinkie, there’s nothing for you to worry about,” she replied. “There’s no competition for Sugar Cube Corner in all of Ponyville, and besides, even if that did happen, I doubt they’d send you home to your parents! You’re an adult Pinkie, they can’t do that! And none of us would let you guys go homeless. If I took in Trixie when I didn’t even know her that well, don’t you think I’d do that for a best friend and her loved ones if it came to it?”
Pinkie Pie looked thoughtful, then smiled widely, her mane popping back out and fur returning to its true color. “Yeah! You would! Thanks Twilight, I needed that!”
Twilight chuckled, giving her friend a hug. “It’s fine, Pinkie, what kind of friend would I be if I didn‘t help?”
Checker peaked in through the window, giving a sadistic smirk as she telekinetically tampered with the stove’s workings. She gave a chuckle. “Have a blast, Pinkie…” She gave a dark chuckle.
Pinkie Pie nodded, then looked over to Trixie, who was getting close to the end of the story. Pinkie smiled at the sight and turned on the stove, humming her unsung song to herself. She didn’t notice a subtle rattle building in the stove.
“And with the ring of the bell, the evil Grogar was banished back to his dark realm and Dream Valley was safe once more!” Trixie announced, the illusionary projection she used showing events as she spoke. The foals clapped, giggling, then yawned.
“Thank you, Trixie,” said Mrs. Cake, her and Mr. Cake picking up the foals. “You were a big help.”
Trixie gave a theatrical bow. “It was a pleasure, if you ever have need Trixie’s services again, do not hesitate to ask.”
Trixie then headed back to the kitchen. “Trixie is ready to make apple pie!”
Suddenly, the stove began to sputter and make noises. “Is that supposed to happen?” Trixie asked, blinking as she watched the machine begin to rattle and shake.
“No!” Twilight yelled as fire shot up out of the stove, coming dangerously close to lighting the building on fire. She quickly put a barrier around the stove seconds before it exploded, jarring everyone in the room.
They all stared at it in shock, even Pinkie Pie. The only noise was the foals crying upstairs.
“What was that?!” yelled Mrs. Cake, running in in a panic.
“The…the stove…it just exploded…“ Pinkie muttered, shaking. This wasn’t just them being in danger…if Twilight hadn’t been here…Sugar Cube Corner…the Cakes and the foals…they could’ve been…
“I-Is everypony ok?” Trixie finally asked, shaking it off the best she could.
“…Y-yeah…T-thanks to Twilight…”
“Ugh…where am I?” Twilight asked, blinking. She looked around the room surrounding her. It was a dank, rather depressing hospital room. “W-what happened?”
“So you are awake…” said a voice.
Twilight turned, seeing Princess Celestia herself trot into the room. Her eyes seemed different…frightening. And she looked so angry. It just seemed so…wrong…but it made her feel so frightened to see her teacher…her friend look this way…
“Princess! W-what happened?! Why am I…”
At that moment, Twilight noticed she was strapped down to the bed, a seal on her horn. “What’s going on?!”
Celestia glared. “…Ponyville is gone.”
It was as if the moon had fallen out of orbit. “W-what?!”
“All that is left of it is a crater, nothing more. No ponies but you were found.”
Tears formed in Twilight’s eyes. Her friends…her family… “How?! How could that happen?!”
“You do not remember?”
Twilight gave it thought for a moment. “Checker! She must’ve done something! She was-”
Twilight stared in shock. “W-what?”
“Checker went back to Manehatten with Trixie.”
“But…no, that was a trick!”
“Spike sent me a note telling me you thought so, and sent them all on a wild goose chase in a tropical storm for nothing. I have checked, they are in Manehatten as we speak.”
Twilight gasped. “B-but…”
“You became mad with paranoia. You could not believe that Trixie would leave you like that. Everything that happened from Trixie’s departure till now was a hallucination.”
Twilight shuddered. She…she’d done that? “But…Ponyville…”
“You did it.”
Twilight gasped. “But…I’d never…”
“You lost control. And all of Ponyville, all of your friends, have paid the price for it.”
Twilight shook her head frantically. “No! That’s…that’s not possible!”
“It is, and it is what happened,” Celestia stated, cold fury in her tone as she growled. “And it is not the first time something like this has happened, is it?”
Twilight‘s ears pinned, remembering her past mistakes…the freak outs she‘d had…
“…I never should have taken you as my student. You are going to an asylum were you can never hurt anyone again. Maybe my next student shall have better control.”
“I cannot have a mad mare as my student, we are through, Twilight,” Celestia stated, turning and heading out the door.
Twilight felt her heart break in two. “I…I didn’t do it…I didn’t…I didn’t do it…” she muttered, breaking down crying.
“Princess, please don’t leave!” Twilight called after the Princess desperately, becoming grayer and grayer as she struggled in her bindings. “…Don’t leave…I…I didn’t mean to do it…I didn’t…” She stopped struggling, gray almost reaching her head…
Twili, you can beat her…please, I know you can…I believe in you…I always have…
…when she felt something. She opened her eyes and briefly saw nothing…but felt something, someone’s presence…Shining Armor?…and then it hit her…
“Wait one minute!”
Twilight’s bonds shattered and she ran out the door. “Where are the guards?!”
Celestia jolted. “Guards?”
“If I’d REALLY destroyed Ponyville, then I’d be guarded! And if it were insanity, I’d be in a straight jacket not tied to a bed!”
She narrowed her eyes right at ‘Celestia’. “And more importantly, Celestia has NEVER abandoned me! Even when I messed up big time! She didn’t abandon me when I caused the Smartypants Incident! Even when I messed up at the Wedding, she didn’t DISOWN ME! She didn‘t abandon her SISTER after she nearly took over the world! No matter how bad I’ve messed up, she would NEVER disown me! But you have no idea what Celestia’s even like do you, Checker?!”
Celestia snarled, disguise shattered. “Why aren’t any of you playing along?! You’re supposed to be crushed!”
“Because your sister taught us your grandmother’s dream trick, all six of us!”
“B-But that shouldn’t matter! You shouldn’t be able to use it! Not with what I’m hitting you with!”
“I can’t speak for the others, but me? Celestia is my mentor! I know her better than anyone! I’m ASHAMED that it took realizing my brother was a guard to realize that she’d NEVER do this to me!”
“You’re still a dangerous unicorn!”
“That’s WHY Princess Celestia trained me! So I could CONTROL my power! And the one time I LOST control, I did cause trouble, but Celestia FORGAVE me for it!”
Twilight snarled, glaring daggers through Checker.. “You’re NOTHING like Celestia! How DARE you use her face!” A dream of Celestia manifested next to Twilight and they proceeded to blast Checker full force, shattering the dream.
